Kangaroo Valley is one of Australia's leading eco responsible tourist destinations. Our aim is to ensure that your visit doesn't harm the environment so we can all continue to enjoy the pristine natural beauty and country charm of this area. Kangaroo Valley was the first plastic bag free town in mainland Australia. This initiative is proudly supported by many local tourism operators who are also participating in our 'Becoming Carbon Neutral' programme to reduce and offset their greenhouse emissions (see below 'Have You Seen our Green Kangaroo') We are introducing eco responsible practices that include participating in nature and heritage projects to preserve our beautiful environment and historic structures. Visitors can make a valuable contribution to offset and reduce the impact of the journey to Kangaroo Valley. By making a donation at the Tourist Information Centre, you will be contributing to planting native trees in an audited conservation zone run by Conservation Volunteers Australia.

Have you seen our Green Kangaroo?

Enjoy a green tourism experience in Kangaroo Valley. The Kangaroo Valley Tourist Association is using a Green Kangaroo symbol to indicate the tourist operators who are participating in our 'Becoming Carbon Neutral' programme. Many of its members have audited their CO2 footprint, are reducing their energy use and offsetting greenhouse gases so that your visit has minimal impact on the environment. Australia's unique wildlife, plants and ancient geology are at the very heart of our nation's tourism experience. Our passion to preserve the natural beauty and bounty of Kangaroo Valley has led to us taking this initiative.
